SMCOA

Explore Egypt
An Annual Journey into Ancient Civilization

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

“Explore Egypt” is SMCOA’s premier annual expedition designed for hands-on discovery and immersive learning at the world’s most significant archaeological sites. This is not a passive tour but an active archaeological and cultural fieldwork experience where participants become explorers of history through guided site examinations, workshops with experts, and direct engagement with ongoing preservation efforts. This journey transforms participants from tourists into temporary field researchers who contribute to understanding and preserving Egypt’s legacy.

CORE OBJECTIVES:

1 Facilitate Direct Historical Engagement: Enable participants to interact with archaeological sites through guided exploration, measurement, and documentation activities).

2·  Support  Active  Preservation:   Allocate  a  portion  of  trip  fees  to  fund  specific conversation projects at visited sites.

3• Build Global Heritage Stewards: Transform participants into informed advocates for Egypt’s cultural preservation worldwide.

MOST POPULAR DESTINATIONS:

  • The Great Pyramid of Khufu: One of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Its perfect geometry and immensity symbolized the pharaoh’s divine power.
  • The Sphinx: The guardian with the body of a lion and head of a pharaoh (likely Khafre), carved from the bedrock. It was an object of mystery and veneration.

Cairo tower:
  • Often called “Egypt’s second pyramid” for its iconic status in the modern skyline.
  • A symbol of 20th-century Egyptian independence and modernity.
  • The revolving restaurant offers a meal with a slowly changing vista.

Pompey’s Pillar:
  • A massive 25-meter red granite column is one of the largest ancient monoliths ever erected, and it is actually a misnamed Roman triumphal monument from the 3rd century AD, standing as the tallest ancient structure in Alexandria..

Catacomb:
  • A unique fusion of Egyptian, Greek, and Roman funerary art and architecture in a single multi-level subterranean tomb. This remarkable blend is the result of its creation during the 2nd century AD in Alexandria, a period of intense cultural crossover.

Ain Sokhna:
  • It is the closest Red Sea resort to Cairo, offering a rapid escape with its clear waters and mountain scenery. Its name means “Hot Spring,” derived from the natural sulfur springs found in the nearby hills.

Royal Mummies Museum:
  • The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization’s Royal Mummies Hall is special because it solemnly displays the actual mummies of Egypt’s greatest pharaohs, like Ramses 11 and Hatshepsut, in a state-of-the-art, climate-controlled gallery. The experience is unique for its reverent, immersive atmosphere that feels like a journey into the presence of ancient kings and queens.
